Canada East Tour 2006059.JPG - Badly damaged in the course of the British bombardment in 1759, the Basilique de Notre-Dame-de-Québec was rebuilt over a period of nearly two centuries. The forerunner of today's cathedral was New France's first parish church, built of stone in 1647, itself a replacement for a timber church erected by the Jesuits in 1633. The church became a cathedral in 1657.
